small press:
Capra Press

When I started working for Mackintosh & Young in the 1970s, Noel Young was nearing the point of quitting as a printer to spend his energies as publisher of Capra Press. Originally he called it Capricorn Press, but another press with that name protested. Nevertheless, he kept the horns of a goat prominently displayed over the Heidelberg moving-bed letterpress, so smooth it was claimed you could place a dime on its edge on the running press and it wouldn't tip over. Capra chapbooks were in full swing, with handmade racks for display created by his son Aaron Young, who was the binder in the shop. For collating jobs, I remember a large yellow rotating tabletop, with about five of us seated around as the stacks of pages to collate came by, and we used a special tacky wax on our fingertips to pick up single sheets at a time. Noel was getting good authors for his chapbook series: Ray Bradbury, Henry Miller (whom he had worked for briefly), Raymond Carver, Lawrence Clark Powell, Lawrence Durrell, if memory serves.

The general list of small press titles is below. If you follow the publishers, such as older "small" presses, as I do, you'll find more specific information here:
